Because contexts have to be tailored to both the way you function as a person and the nature of your work, this is maybe the area where you will have to adjust your Todoist GTD setup the most. Some things can only be decided at the next department meeting or the next time you have sit-down time with your boss or customer. Some types of work can only be done at the office or at home. It can be the physical place you need to be.

I define contexts as something both physical and mental. Used correctly they can multiply your productivity and turbocharge the way you work. This way my 'disaggregated' next actions (freestanding, not from a project) and the project next actions are just 'actions' organized by context, and I use context to help me decide what to do next.(Please be aware that in order to use Labels, you must have a Todoist premium account.)Ĭontexts are maybe one of the most useful features in Getting Things Done. crossing off obsolete or completed tasks and so forth. So I'm not sure that 'Option 2' makes total sense to me as stated - some actions don't belong to a project and so 'organizing them under each project' seems wrong. However, there are next actions that have no corresponding project. So there is no such thing as an active project with no next actions. the most immediate physical, visible activity that would be required to move the project toward closure ( source).

Unless you've exhausted all the current actions for a project and are waiting for more, every project has actions, and at least one of them will be a 'next' action - i.e. I'd like to gently push back on the notion that some projects have next actions and some don't.
